After 25 years of influencing fashion merchandising for high-profile international brands, Troy Patruno is going solo with Edit home decor and bookstore. Edit will be at the intersection of art and retail, with plans to feature a rotating collection of local artwork, alongside a finely curated line of home decor.

With a target opening date of Mar. 1, Patruno has been curating a “minimal mod” atmosphere for the home fashion and bookstore at 1114 South Main St.

“The inspiration behind the name Edit is, whether you’re talking about your closet, or your home decor, or your bookshelf, it’s all about editing the right pieces,” Patruno said. “You don’t need to have a million things. In order to have a beautiful space, you just need to have a few of the right things.”

While Patruno might not be an interior designer by trade, he is known to “style a mean apartment,” in his words. When browsing the art and bookshelves in Edit, Patruno hopes that guests will feel like they’re hanging out in their stylish friend’s apartment.

“Except, all the stuff we’ll have here is stuff you can buy, you can take home, and get that same look,” Patruno said. “I want it to feel like a home environment, rather than a bookstore environment. We’ll be displaying our books in a similar way to how you’d store or display books at home.”

Most of Patruno’s professional experience lies in the retail world, but he has always been interested in the publishing industry. Between stints with Escada and Ralph Lauren, Patruno managed the Assouline bookstore at Crystals. This passion for publishing is another inspiration behind the name Edit:

“I’ve always wanted to be an Editor-in-Chief,” Patruno joked. “So now that I have a store called Edit, I am. I’ve always wanted to be Anna Wintour, and now in my own way, I can do that.”

As the designated Editor-in-Chief, Patruno has opted for clean, bright and white minimalism. The first artist on the gallery’s calendar is local painter Nick San Pedro.

“I love creating an environment, whether it’s in a store, or at a dinner party, or having people over for the holidays, I like the idea of having people enter an environment that’s coordinated, and managed properly, and makes people feel good,” Patruno said.
