When No. 1 Boba Tea opened its doors in Chinatown over twenty years ago, it was the city’s first-ever bubble tea shop. In 2005, Amy Zhang Warthan took the reigns and set the brand on a steady growth trajectory. The ninth location will open on Mar. 1 at 6640 N Durango Dr.

Over the years, No. 1 Boba Tea has curated an extensive menu, ranging from fresh loose-leaf brews to milky tea lattes. Being something of a tea connoisseur, the owner sources their leaves from Taiwan and offers a rotating tasting menu.

In addition to these fresh brews, No. 1 Boba Tea also offers decadent classics like Hokkaido Green Milk Tea, Taro Milk Tea and Matcha Milk Tea, with the option to add tapioca pearls. The tea shop also sells a range of loose leaf teas on their retail site

“We carefully choose our suppliers to make sure they are ethical, and we pick organic if it’s available,” Amy Zhang Warthan told What Now Las Vegas. “We always use fresh, whole and organic produce in our smoothies, slushes and power juices, our tea is brewed daily and we try not to use so much artificial syrup. That’s how we stand out from a lot of other boba shops.”

When she first bought No. 1 Boba Tea, not many Americans were on board with the trend.

“Not a lot of people knew about bubble tea at first,” the owner said. “But now, most Americans at least know what it is. It’s getting really popular and well-accepted. It’s becoming another alternative to coffee.”

In addition to their Centennial Hills launch, No. 1 Boba Tea also plans to open locations in Henderson and near Austin, Texas. No. 1 Boba Tea will be entering Centennial Hills around the same time as the nearby Durango Beltway Plaza tenants begin to open their doors. The new development will feature The Standard Tavern, Greens and Proteins and Wingstop.
