In a city often thought to be saturated with alcohol and bar establishments, many might be surprised to learn that Las Vegas does not have a single winery. Barbara and John DiVirgilio seek to change that, as they make plans to open Pine Hollow Winery at 7018 W Charleston Blvd. near Summerlin.

Barbara DiVirgilio told What Now Las Vegas that the winery recently secured another unit, bringing their total floor plan over 3,000 square feet.

They started the business in Pennsylvania, but the DiVirgilios chose to bring the production out West when they learned that the demand for wineries in Las Vegas was much higher. On the tasting menu will be their signature array of fruit wines.

“In Pennsylvania, there are hundreds and hundreds of wineries,” Barbara DiVirgilio said. “We used to drive all over to visit them; that was our weekend activity. One afternoon, we ended up sitting down with the owner of a winery who told us what it was like. On our way home, my husband turned to me and said, ‘We can do this.’”

Renovation for their first brick-and-mortar location is still underway. Once complete, Barbara DiVirgilio hopes that the winery will provide a welcoming space for Las Vegas locals to relax and enjoy their signature wines.

“We want to let the average person know they’re welcome in our establishment,” DiVirgilio said.  “Anyone is welcome to come, drink wine, and have great conversations.”

The DiVirgilios have faced a series of roadblocks along the way, but they are determined to open this coming spring.

“We’re like the little winery that could,” Barbara DiVirgilio said.
