Portillo’s did not disclose a timeline for the expansion nor did the company provide plan specifics like where it would open and how many locations the metro area could expect, but the expansion is part of a “long-term plan to scale the brand and open new locations across the country,” they said.

Portillo’s got its start In 1963 when Founder Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a small trailer to open the first Portillo’s hot dog stand in Villa Park, Ill., which he called “The Dog House,” according to a press release.

Years later, Portillo’s has grown to include more than 75 restaurants across 10 states. Portillo’s is best known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, fresh salads and famous chocolate cake.
