Durango Casino and Resort Seems to Be Planning a Mexican Restaurant

Building permits may shed light on the upcoming resort’s culinary future

Having broken ground back in May, Station CasinosDurango Casino & Resort is expected to open late in 2023. In the meantime, information continues to trickle in about the upcoming resort.

Durango Casino & Resort’s leadership team was unveiled earlier this month: David Horn, former GM of Palace Station, is stepping in as VP and General Manager; Kai Speth is bringing 30 years of experience at globally recognized hotels and restaurants to the position of Vice President of Hospitality; and Daniel Ye, an “internationally recognized chef with a career spanning stints from New York City to Spain,” will serve as Executive Chef.

More information comes in the form of building permits submitted to Clark County by the resort. What Now reported back in July on permitting for an unnamed steakhouse with a contract valuation listed at more than $8 million. A further permit this month gives that project a name: Churchill’s Prime Steakhouse.

However, asked about the name, a representative of Station Casinos told What Now, “This is just a place holder.”

What’s in a name? Only time will tell.

This week, What Now found further permitting paperwork submitted by the resort, this time for a “Mexican restaurant” project, with a contract valuation of $5,904,600—that’s a big a price tag. The hotel is also expected (per still other permits) to join in on the current food hall trend, with a ten-stall food hall of its own.

Further details remain unavailable for the moment, but as we move into the New Year and Durango Resort & Casino’s long-awaited opening comes into view, more details can be expected emerge.
